How to judge whey value by price per gram of protein

Tub price and tub weight don't tell you the value, because every brand puts a different amount of protein in a scoop. The one fair comparison is how much you pay for 1 gram of protein.

Formula

Price per gram of protein = tub price ÷ (protein per scoop × number of scoops)

Example

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey costs ฿4,090 for 24 g of protein × 74 scoops = 1,776 g of protein per tub, which works out to ฿2.30 per gram.

Meanwhile High Pro Whey Protein Isolate is a small tub at ฿1,130, or ฿1.46 per gram, which is even cheaper than the big tub above. Tub size doesn't tell you the value, so always check the price per gram.

Watch out

A mass gainer like Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass has 1,250 kcal per serving because it's high in carbs, so compare it with other mass gainers, not with regular whey.
